 Great pump but switch out the switch July 30, 2010

I have had this pump for 3 years now. I absolutely love it! It is quiet and works fast. In 3 years though, I have gone through 2 of the "built-in" switches. They seem very cheap for being $30 each! I realize I might get more water in the sump pit than a lot of people. In a heavy downpour, the pump will kick on every minute. I have read some other reviews where the switch will stick on or off. Both the original and replacement did exaclty the same thing. The second time the switch acted up, I purchased one of those electronic devices that plugs in before the pump and uses a wire to sense the water level to turn the pump on. It was another $79 but has worked like a champ and no moving parts to the switch. I had to zip tie the old switch so that it is constanly on but very easy to do. The electronic switch also allows the water level to go higher so the pump doesn't cycle as often, which I am sure is what caused the switches to fail so fast. I would gladly rate this unit a 5 but Zoeller, please find a new manufacturer for your switches. They are your weak link!

I WENT THRU 3 LOWES PUMPS IN 3 YEARS. ALL VERY NOISY AND ALL DIED. THIS THING IS SO QUIET YOU DONT EVEN KNOW ITS RUNNING.

If you need a sump then this is what you want. I work in new construction and this pump goes in 99 out of 100 houses. I have never had a problem with it.

So far this pump is doing a great job! Best thing about it is that it doesn't have one of those stupid things that floats all over the place and gets hung up and causes the basement to flood. Plus you don't have to dig a hole to China to get it at the correct level. Yeah, I know I'm not all technical, but you get the point.

I bought a Zoeller sump pump ( not sure if it's the model 53 or model 57 because it's still in the hole and I can't read the id plate! ) in *1987*, 23 years ago!, and it still works like a champ! Super quiet ( so I know it's still lubed and running smooth ) and moves tons of water straight up 8 feet and then another 50 feet out to the street through 1.5" PVC and 1.5" hose.
We don't often flood, maybe one BIG flood every 4-6 years, and this pump has NEVER failed in ANY way. Never!
I bought another Zoeller model 57 for a backup ~5 years ago but so far have never needed it. The only reason I bought it was because the older one was getting a little long-in-tooth, not because it was performing any less. I just wanted a backup on hand for piece of mind.
You know how it feels when you buy something of such great quality that it leaves you wanting to buy another, even when you don't need it? That's the way you feel after using this product.
ZOELLER MAKES SUPERB SUMP PUMPS!
